What Is Palliative Care?
Palliative care is a specialised form of long-term care for individuals living with a terminal illness or life-limiting condition. The focus is on relieving symptoms, managing pain, and addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual needs to improve quality of life. Palliative care is available for those who may have a year or more left to live, and it can extend over several years depending on individual needs.
We understand that this can be a sensitive time, which is why our caring and compassionate teams at our palliative care homes offer support to residents’ families and friends, providing advice or an opportunity to talk.
As well as managing clinical needs such as pain, sickness, tiredness or loss of appetite, we look at a person’s overall wellbeing including emotional, social and spiritual support.
The home works together with the resident, family and friends, to create personalised care plans and get to know the individual and what is and isn’t important to them to make their stay as comfortable as possible.
Palliative Care at Four Seasons Health Care Group
At Four Seasons Health Care Group, we understand how deeply emotional and challenging it can be when a loved one approaches the end of their life. Our dedicated team is here to offer compassionate, professional support through our palliative care services, ensuring that residents are cared for with dignity, comfort, and respect during this difficult time.
Our Approach to Palliative Care
At Four Seasons Health Care Group, we believe in a holistic approach that looks at more than just the medical needs of our residents. Our teams in our care and nursing homes work closely with residents, their families, and healthcare professionals to create personalised care plans. These plans consider each resident’s unique preferences, values, and wishes, ensuring a person-centred approach that continues until the end of life.
Our palliative care includes:
- Advanced care planning: We focus on managing pain, physical symptoms, and any anxiety residents may have, keeping them as physically and emotionally comfortable as possible.
- Emotional and spiritual support: We look after the whole person by offering emotional, social, and spiritual care, alongside managing clinical symptoms such as sickness, tiredness, or loss of appetite.
- Family and friend support: Our compassionate team is also here for families and friends, providing advice and practical help or simply being there to listen during such a sensitive time.
Personalising the Experience
We understand that each person’s journey is unique. That’s why we take time to get to know every individual, learning about what’s important to them and how we can help make their experience as comfortable as possible. Whether it’s organising religious or spiritual support, arranging for favourite flowers or music in the room, or even planning an assisted visit to a special place, we’re here to ensure their final days are meaningful and peaceful.
Skilled Nursing and Specialist Care
Our highly trained nursing teams are equipped to provide palliative and end-of-life care for a wide range of conditions, including advanced cancer, motor neurone disease, advanced dementia, COPD, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis (MS). With years of experience and a commitment to compassionate care, our staff are ready to meet the complex needs of those living with progressive diseases.
Supporting Families
We know that this time can be just as difficult for families as it is for the residents we care for. That’s why we work alongside families, keeping them informed, offering emotional support, and assisting with any practical matters that may arise. Our team is here to provide guidance and comfort, ensuring that everyone involved feels supported and cared for.
