Care Home Open Week
Mark your calendar for Monday 24 June, as we kick off Care Home Open Week! This annual event is all about celebrating and showcasing the care and welcoming communities that care homes provide. It’s an opportunity for care homes to welcome community members into their homes and showcase the activities, facilities and the diverse career paths available.
Although it’s Care Home Open Week, we warmly welcome you to visit our brighterkind and Four Seasons care homes anytime. Feel free to pop in to meet our friendly team and take a tour or book a visit here.
This year, Care Home Open Week focuses on three key themes: ‘Open Doors, Open Hearts,’ ‘Community Engagement,’ and ‘Innovative Care Practices.’
Open Doors, Open Hearts
In 2023, we supported 11,782 families with their care enquiries and earned the ‘Trusted Feefo Service 2023’ Award. We received this award for our world class customer experience for families looking for care and we’re here to help you too.
We know that navigating care options can be daunting. That’s why we’ve provided helpful information about what to expect when visiting a care home, how to get the most out of your visit and a helpful checklist to print out and take with you. Plus, our Home Managers are eager to share their top tips for finding the right care home.
“My tips for anyone looking for the right care home would be to keep an eye out for key things such as; do the residents and team look happy? Is the home clean and tidy? Is the team interacting with the residents and relatives? Finally yet importantly, what is your initial instinct?”
– Karen, Home Manager at Benarty View Care Home in Kelty
“The most important thing is having a thorough initial assessment to determine the needs of the resident which is essential for choosing the right care home.”
– Ruby, Home Manager at The Granby Care Home in Harrogate
“The right care home should have the feel of a home, be welcoming and have a team working in a way that promotes dignity, respect and person centred values.”
– Geoffrey, Home Manager at Lansdowne Care Home in Cricklewood
Community Engagement
Our brighterkind and Four Seasons care homes are vibrant communities, where residents feel at home. Our engaging activities, known as Magic Moments, are carefully crafted to reflect the interests and needs of our residents, ensuring a dynamic and fulfilling environment, helping residents to enjoy every day.
Our Magic Moments programme offers a variety of regular activities and events, many of which are designed to keep residents connected with their local community. From intergenerational activities and themed events to dementia coffee mornings and fundraising events, we strive to foster meaningful connections. Visitors always receive a warm welcome, making our care homes a hub of community life.
Here are just a few of the many ways our homes help residents stay connected with their local communities:
- Angusfield Care Home in Aberdeen: Residents enjoy bi-weekly visits to a Football Memories Club and monthly outings to their local Church Seniors Club.
- Northlea Court Care Home in Cramlington: Residents participate in weekly intergenerational activities with a nearby nursery and frequently attend church services.
- Pennine Lodge Care Home in Carlisle: Residents receive regular visits from local choir groups and schoolchildren.
- Bishopsmead Lodge Care Home in Bristol: Residents frequently visit a local bowling club and maintain strong community ties with local schools and services.
Cruise Around the World
This year, join us for our ‘Cruise Around the World’ armchair travel activity. The first stop of the itinerary was Mexico to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. Residents, families and local community members celebrated traditions of Mexico, delicious food and fun activities. Our upcoming stop is Paris for the Olympics! If you would like to join in the festivities, please get in touch with your local care home.
Supporting Healthcare Professionals
Care Home Open Week is also a fantastic opportunity for Healthcare Professionals to experience the community, compassion, and connections within our care homes. At Four Seasons Health Care Group, we are dedicated to helping Healthcare Professionals find safe and suitable care for patients promptly. We offer same-day show rounds and assessments, enabling potential residents to move in within 24 hours.
Innovative Care Practices
It is our mission to ensure every resident receives the highest standard of care tailored to their unique needs. How do we do this? We continually invest in our homes, teams and innovative technology.
Care Quality
In 2023 we saw a significant improvement in our care quality ratings. A contributing factor was the implementation of a new digital dependency tool. It enabled our clinical teams to make more informed decisions with evidence-based support for our homes’ unique requirements.
Magic Moments
We are committed to enhancing our Magic Moments programme, which promotes all-around wellbeing for residents through a variety of vibrant interactions that stimulate the mind, body, and soul.
To support our activities programme and provide on-demand entertainment for residents, we developed the Magic Moments Portal. This portal, available in all our homes, offers a fantastic array of entertainment options, including quizzes, games, live events and holistic sessions, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
In 2023, we provided over 125,108 individualised one-to-one activities for our residents. By offering engaging activities inspired by residents’ interests, we achieved an 84% participation rate in our care homes.
Awards
We are delighted our innovative care practices has been acknowledged by the following prestigious awards, in which we were finalists for.
