How to Access Care Home Funding
Local Authority contributions towards the weekly fees
To determine eligibility for local authority contributions towards weekly fees, the individual or their representative must contact their local authority to request an assessment. This assessment will cover both social and health care needs. As well as a financial means-test.
NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC)
Another funding option is CHC. Start by contacting the Primary Care Trust via your family GP. Be prepared for a fairly lengthy and in-depth needs led process. A person’s finances aren’t included in this assessment.
Funded Nursing Care (FNC)
Although the care home manager is not directly involved in the FNC application process, they are typically the best person to initiate it. Similar to CHC funding, financial circumstances do not impact the outcome.
Personal Care (Scotland only)
Submit applications for Personal Care directly to the local authority.
Attendance Allowance
To apply for Attendance Allowance, the individual needing care or their representative must contact the helpline at 0800 731 0122 to request an application form or download it from the government website. If requested by phone, the form will arrive by post with instructions for completion. Additional guidance on completing the Attendance Allowance form and determining eligibility is available here.
Personal Independence Payment
To apply for Personal Independence Payment, contact the government helpline at 0800 917 2222 to request an application form, which will be sent by post with completion instructions.
